A hot day for the Driffield Mucky Duck
It was vest marks and sunburn all round as Driffield
Striders hosted the annual Mucky Duck 8.5 miler.
The race did not live up to its name as conditions were not particularly
mucky under foot, the good spell of dry weather made sure of that and the
rain in the recent weeks made hardly any impact to the surface at all.
A total of 205 entrants embarked on the joyous jaunt across the
picturesque Driffield countryside, numbers slightly up from the previous
year. It was a 1 - 2 finish for East Hull Harriers with Jon Frost
posting a winning time of 47:07 followed in by his team mate Jonathon
Carter just under a minute later. Phill Taylor of Bridlington Road Runners
was 'feeling the power' with a brilliant run ensuring he made the 3rd spot
49:00 dead.
Tom Fisher of Hull Springhead Harriers finished off in a brilliant 12th
position with an impressive time of 53:39. It just goes to show the
potential of this young lad. Very well done Tom.
Jamie Farr was the next Harrier to come in with a position of 43rd
overall, once again his trademark strong finish came in to great effect
especially in the last 200 meters just picking off Phillip Dutton in a
sprint finish.
Next in for the club was Phil Dewberry 45th 59:29 a
great result considering Phil had to stop after the first mile to empty
the tank due to a heavy intake of water prior to the race. This was key as
the heat was not kind to the runners. I think it's safe to say you can
knock at least 40
seconds off Phil's time for this pit stop.
Graham Fisher followed in 47th place in 59:55 doing well to finish under
the hour mark. Nicola Plant was next in, 119th 69:05, followed by Julie
Dewberry 152nd 74:11, John Horncastle 154th 74:56 and Sharon Tummons 174th
81:32. Well done to you all to compete in not so perfect running
conditions. I think one more water station at approximately 6.5 miles
would have been a good idea, but still a great day had by all.
A good turn out from the Harriers this year well done to all those who
competed. Also, a big thank you to the nice lady giving out the
goody bags for swapping my XL T-shirt (I entered on the day) for a medium.
But I would like to know why Nicola got a full size Yorkie bar (that said
not for girls) and I only got a two finger Kit Kat in my bag?
